Festival Information |
Wunak Mountain Maple Leaves Festival is held in Hwahyeonmyeon, Pocheon-si,
Gyeonggi-do every October. |
Despite its excellent
beauty being called as 'Little Geumgang in Gyeonggi' and one of the
five most beautiful sites in Gyeonggi-do, it is not so well-known
to citizens of the Seoul metropolitan area as it is not so close to
the metropolitan area and has no easy transportation access. It has
been held since 2002 in order to stimulate the regional economy by
attracting tourists and promoting Wunak Mountain.
This year marks the fourth anniversary of Wunak Mountain Maple Leaves
Festival, and differently from festivals in other areas, it has been
held mainly by the private sector. In particular, it is being recognized
as the best case of the regional private-public cooperation project
where private organizations manages the overall process of festival
organization from the planning to the final stage.
The festival has been held as an one-day event, but as the five day
work-week system was introduced, the festival duration was adjusted
to two days from the fourth festival held in 2005 in order to provide
more pleasures to tourists. The festival consists of various performances,
contests, exhibitions, and food fair. In detail, there are hiking
contest, local specialty exhibition, song contest for residents, and
various private performances.

The number of visitors which was recorded at around
3,000 at the first festival was increased to 6,000 last year. The
size of the festival and the number of visitors are on the increase
year on year. The organizers are thoroughly preparing for this year's
festival which will be held in this October by remodeling the hiking
road in Wunak Mountain, and the residents' local government is establishing
the website to attract more tourists.
