Pocheon Baekwun Valley Dongjangkun Festival (From the end of December to the end of January, every year)

This festival is a representative winter festival in the Seoul metropolitan area. It takes place in the place where we can fully enjoy the romatic winter scenary, Baekwun Valley, Idongmyeon, Pocheon for more than a month from the end of December. Visitors can enjoy sleigh ride in valleys which are 100m and 30m long, and ice-fishing of trouts. Valleys are full of ice pillars which are 30m at highest, showing spectacular scenes for visitors. Visitors can take a picture at observation platforms, and there is a show with color lighting, music, and ice pillars are harmonized. A icicle tunnel which is 50m long in the straw-roofed house village presents a memorable scene to visitors. At the traditional food experience center decorated in the traditional Korean style, visitors can eat baked sweet potatos, potatos, traditional lunch box, and winter bean soup boiled in iron pots. Baekwun Valley is a popular resort place for citizens living in the metropolitan area, and over 800 thousand people visits the valley in summertime. In winter when the number of visitors decreases, Baekwun Valley Dongjangkun Festival is expected to stimulate the regional economy. Dopyeongri, Idongmyeon where Baekwun Valley is located has a nickname, Doridol. It was originated from the saying that 'once you visited here, you will surely be back". As seen in this saying, clean and beautiful natural environment attracts many tourists. This region is also known as the capital of Gungye, and recently attracting the attention of the public with its various wellness food culture including oriental medicine Kimchi.
